Master Patrick Levet is without doubt the major expert in the West of this typical Vietnamese Martial Art that is called Vovinam Viet Vo Dao. Once again, his great experience and knowledge are shown in this video in which he responds to advanced technical questions in terms of self defense. A major part of the work is focussed on one of the important issues at the moment in the disciplinary arts that is, solutions as how to handle short distance or body to body fighting situations.
1.Self defense and defense against a knife. (DAO GAM).
2.Disadvantages in body to body situations, mainly: holds (pinnings), grapplings and strangleholds.
3. The use of throwing techniques, locks, headlocks and pinning techniques. The forms included:
Thap Tu Queyen (the Queyen of 10 letters) and Long Ho Quyen (The Combat of the Tiger and the Dragon) and technical explanations of all the movements. This forms was invented 60 years ago by the founder of Vovinam, Master Nguyen Loc. It has been copied by other Vietnamese styles withe added variations.
The meaning of some of the movements has been lost or erroneously used, especeially when the exact technical application to each one is unknown.
